Created for Nordic Winter!
The Vaistoa Pitoa™ Winter Sole is designed to enable free and natural movement throughout the northern winter.
It provides exceptional stability and ground feel even on icy surfaces. The all-new design combines the natural sensitivity of a thin and flexible sole with improved traction thanks to integrated grip zones.
All adult winter models now feature the new Vaistoa Pitoa™ Winter Sole, where high-friction grip zones are molded into Vaistoa’s thin and flexible base to enhance traction. These zones are made from a softer, high-friction rubber compound to ensure optimal grip. Strategically placed under the forefoot and heel, they allow for a natural stride in all winter conditions.
The high-friction grip zones are seamlessly molded into the sole, making the structure durable and long-lasting. The soft traction material provides better grip on ice and snow but wears slightly faster on dry, rough surfaces. In winter conditions, snow and ice naturally slow down abrasion, helping the traction remain consistent for longer.
Vaistoa Pitoa™ combines the natural barefoot feel with reliable grip that supports confident movement even in winter.
Clean off any loose dirt from your shoes immediately after use with a damp cloth or sponge.
If your feet tend to sweat inside the shoes, it’s important to let them air out properly after each use. Remove the insole if it’s detachable, open up the shoe fully, and allow it to dry naturally before wearing again.
If the shoes get wet on the inside, remove the insole and open the shoe wide to let air circulate as much as possible.
It’s also a good idea to give your shoes “rest days,” allowing them to dry and air out completely.
Store your shoes upright, at room temperature, and protected from direct UV light.
The soft, high-friction rubber compound provides better grip on ice and snow but wears slightly faster on dry, rough surfaces. In winter conditions, snow and ice naturally reduce abrasion, helping the traction remain consistent for longer.

There are very few barriers to using barefoot shoes.
However, such barriers include functional or structural disorders of the feet or lower limbs. For example, hallux rigidus, or stiff big toe, where the big toe joint does not bend easily or at all upwards during the push-off phase of the step – which is a requirement for the natural roll of the step.
Similarly, any surgical operations where joints are fused – that is, their movement is restricted or completely prevented – pose challenges for the smooth use of barefoot shoes and the benefits they provide.
Loss of sensation in the soles of the feet (neuropathy) due to diabetes or nerve damage can also be considered a contraindication for using barefoot shoes, as you may injure your feet without noticing through the thin sole of the shoe.
If you have painful osteoarthritis or an active inflammatory phase of rheumatoid arthritis, it is advisable to reconsider using barefoot shoes until the condition improves.
If necessary, consult a physiotherapist or podiatrist who is knowledgeable about this matter. Remember to tell them that you want to transition to using barefoot shoes and ask how they can assist you in this project.

Fully waterproof
The waterproof membrane construction keeps your feet dry in rain, slush, and wet snow. Move freely and confidently – no matter the weather.
3M Thinsulate™ Thermal Lining
The warm 3M Thinsulate™ insulation and soft faux fur lining provide exceptional comfort and superior thermal insulation – without making the shoes feel heavy.
Vaistoa Pitoa™ Winter Sole
A winter-designed sole with strategically placed grip zones under the forefoot and heel. It provides improved traction and stability even on icy surfaces – keeping your step steady and natural, even in challenging conditions.
Matti Melanen
Physiotherapist Recommends
Most hiking boots protect the foot but at the same time restrict its natural function. When the foot can’t move freely, the subtle coordination between muscles and joints weakens – affecting the body’s overall balance and control.
Uoma 3 Winter takes a different approach. It allows the foot to function as it’s meant to: toes can spread naturally, small stabilizing muscles are activated, and sensory feedback from the nervous system remains intact even on uneven terrain. This enhances body control, step stability, and natural confidence in movement.
In addition, Uoma 3 Winter offers a fully waterproof construction and traction-enhancing soles that provide extra grip and protection – without compromising the freedom of natural movement.

Excellent user experience so far. I was sceptical about the grip, but I was pleasantly surprised. They are grippy. The whole range is good. Let's see how they hold up to heavy use.
I bought the Uoma 3, and I love them. I have been looking for shoes that keeps my feet warm but doesn’t hurt wearing. Since I’m flat footed and have hallux valgus all “normal” shoes are painful and I’m freezing all the time but not in these shoes. Finally I won’t have cold feet this wither.
The best winter boots so far!
They keep my feet warm and dry. I can easily fit a thin pair of woollen socks inside them even in the harshest frosts. I didn’t fall over once last winter, so I’d say the grip is reasonably good :) I’d recommend them.
It took a few walks for them to start fitting properly, but once they did, they were absolutely brilliant and coped brilliantly with temperatures as low as -20°C.
I wouldn’t recommend them for snowshoeing or skiing, as the glue holding the sole to the shoe started to come away slightly.
Otherwise, the soles are as good as new even though I’ve clocked up about 800 km in them, which is a real miracle.
Excellent winter shoes for freezing conditions and wet weather; they offer relatively good grip even on slippery surfaces.
I like how these feel. My foot is generally a 42.5, so I took a 43 but should have gone with a 42. It's hard to understand those who say these aren't wide. Mine get moist (which happens after the days first walk), and going inside makes moistute very bad. They're also not that warm below -15°C. They do work better with wool socks (which helps with the moisture), but unfortunately I prefer thin socks. The ceramic pads at the bottom don't do that much (these aren't shoes for slippery conditions). Moist, slippery, and kind of averted otherwise thus missing 2 stars. But they're the best barefoot winter shoes I've had (the first, but not the last).
They’re really comfortable to walk in; it’s hard to go back to wearing ordinary shoes afterwards. My usual shoe size is 38, but I bought a size 40 so I could fit woolly socks in them, as I get cold easily.I wear them every day on long walks in the woods. They offer good grip on snowy paths, but on icy ones they’re no good unless you’ve got studs. I managed down to -10°C once I found some woolly socks that fit without squeezing my toes.In colder weather, my toes get cold on walks, even though I always walk briskly; I tried switching to a lambswool insole, but it’s really too tight. Unfortunately, I had to resort to wearing ordinary winter hiking boots with thick soles and woollen insoles.
Surprisingly warm – you can manage in temperatures as low as -10 degrees without needing thicker socks. It was worth trusting the size chart. I normally wear size 39 shoes, but size 40 was recommended this time. One star off for the anti-slip pads – they’re completely useless.
Good grip on snow and ice when walking at a brisk pace. -16 degrees. Wearing only cotton socks underneath. My feet were actually hot throughout the whole one-hour walk. As I have large feet, I ordered a size larger, which was the right choice. Recommended
I bought these out of curiosity about friction studs. I was hoping they’d provide a good grip in cold, wet and slippery conditions when it’s not practical to use studded tyres. However, I haven’t noticed the significant improvement I’d hoped for from the traction pads. When there’s hard ice covered in water or slush – and even if there’s a bit of grit on it – these still slip. Similarly, on an icy pedestrian crossing that’s been ploughed and smoothed by cars, these don’t provide a slip-free grip either. All the other features have been really good, in my opinion. They’ve kept my feet dry whilst wading through deep slush. They’ve kept my feet warm even in severe frost (-26°C) with just a single pair of thin socks. They’re comfortable to wear. I think the design is nicely sleek, at least for barefoot winter boots. I think the ‘standard’ features of these winter boots – for both slush and severe frost – are good, but I expected the grip strips to provide more traction compared to my previous waterproof barefoot winter shoes from another brand, which don’t have grip strips.
LOVE them! These are my first shoes from Vaistoa, and I didn’t dare to hope they’d be ✨just right✨ when I unpacked my order. The fit is perfect 🤩 and they’re sooo comfortable! The shoes are warm and very comfy both with thinner and thicker socks in🥰
They work perfectly on winter forest trails and work nicely and look neat for everyday wear on the street💕 I can’t wait to order more Vaistoa shoes!😍
Soft and secure. Even though I’ve got to tie the laces at the front, I leave my Kuoma boots in the hall and slip these on. They’re great. The size is just right. On with my woollen socks, and off I go.
After a couple of weeks’ use, my feet started to get used to the low-cut shoes. At first, I had to take it easy when out and about so as not to experience any pain from walking too far. On one occasion, I got the chance to test them on a small patch of ice whilst out for a walk in the woods, and the anti-slip tread on the soles really did work a treat. I haven’t yet been able to test their frost resistance due to our rainy and mild winter.
So comfortable from day one!
As it's not really winter in the western part of southern Sweden yet they actually were a bit to warm.
But even though they were fantastic, no blisters and I walked on wet streets without getting wet.
I long for testing them on ice!
Shoes are comfy, slightly bigger than the actual size, but probably that's the barefoot theme. So far, they are waterproof as expected. I have doubts about exterior material durability, but only time will tell. Another small downside is that shoes get cold rather quickly, so that when you're back inside the room, your feet feel sweaty/moist.
Overall happy, as it's still quite challenging to find a good compromise with winter Barefoot shoes these days.
They lasted just one ride; on the second, the strap came undone. Are these made in China these days? I’m really disappointed with the quality. Otherwise, they’re comfortable enough to wear and would have been useful.
They really are good shoes; the value for money is spot on.
After a month’s use, I’ve got no complaints. They’re very waterproof and work a treat in Finland’s wet autumn.
These boots are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned! The fleece lining keeps my feet lovely and warm and the non-slip works even on mossy paths. I’ve already had numerous compliments and people asking where I got them from. Definitely recommend!
These boots are great. I use them with wool socks and are warm, spacious and comfy.
They are waterproof so I don't need to change to rain boots. Fit perfectly for the Scandinavian weather.
This is like my 4th pair of barefoot shoes I buy with vaistoa. The color is nice, though not my fav but they're still awesome.
These are extremely warm shoes; you’ll start to sweat in them as soon as the temperature rises above zero, so you don’t need thick socks at all. Even in -10 ℃ frost, my feet got sweaty in thin socks. But I’ve also walked comfortably all day in 10 ℃ above zero without it being a nightmare.
Compared to summer shoes (barefoot), these are noticeably stiffer, but nowhere near as stiff as normal winter boots.
The grip is OK, but these aren’t studded shoes, mind you. There’s still a risk of slipping on ice.
With summer shoes, I often walk on the balls of my feet (the balls hit the ground first), but with these it feels very unnatural, except when running or jogging.
At first, I got a bit of chafing on my heel (not the sole of my foot), but since then I’ve been wearing them either without lacing them up or with the laces very loose, and it’s been fine. Generally speaking, if you lace them up tightly, these shoes feel stiffer.
They felt a bit stiff at first, and in particular the ‘fold’ at the bottom and tip of the straps seems to bend over a rather small area, and that bend doesn’t quite match where my foot bends – at least not yet – and the instep has become a bit sore over the past week. However, I haven’t walked in them all that much yet, so I’m sure they’ll soften up with use.
Mind you, I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes all year round for a couple of years now, so perhaps it’s a bit much to expect the same flexibility from winter boots.
I’d really love it if these fitted my feet, but they press quite badly at the bend when I walk or just bend my foot like in the photo. I wonder if it’s because my feet are too narrow and thin for these shoes.
They’re light and comfortable to walk in. My usual shoe size is 41. Based on the size chart, I chose size 42, and there’s room for two pairs of socks in them. It’s great that they came with anti-slip pads on the soles.
I’m trying out my third pair of barefoot shoes and they’re going down a treat! With these, I can walk for longer than I can in ordinary shoes because of my plantar fasciitis, and they’re wonderfully light 😊
I’ve only been out for a run twice so far, and they feel comfortable. Now I’m waiting for the frost to set in, and I hope these shoes are the sort that won’t let my toes get cold straight away.
The shoes are brilliant. I wear them every day on my walks with my dog. We go for walks and runs of 4–8 km, covering tarmac, sandy and forest paths, as well as pure cross-country terrain. The shoes work brilliantly when out and about. The soles provide good grip and keep moisture at bay. In the summer I wore high-top barefoot shoes, and, inspired by them, I bought the winter versions because their soles offer better grip on slippery surfaces.
These shoes have also become my go-to everyday footwear. They’re comfortable and keep my feet in good condition.
They were definitely worth buying!
These shoes are the best possible; I wear them all the time. Traditional shoes feel strange and cramped.
The shoes are comfortable to wear and nice to walk in, but a major drawback is that they don’t really keep your feet very warm; I’ve added a thermal insole as well, but even so, my toes still get freezing cold in under an hour when wearing normal long socks. That’s definitely a downside, even though they’re advertised as being warm. -1 degree and my toes are frozen – what on earth would happen at -20? I haven’t been standing still long enough for them to freeze like that. A plus for waterproofing, though.
Although the sole is thin, its material provides good traction on slippery surfaces.
The Vaistoa Pitoa™ Winter Sole features grip zones that improve traction even on icy terrain.
The thin sole also allows you to feel the ground beneath your feet, enhancing grip, balance, and overall stability.
No. Barefoot shoes combine several features that keep your feet warm, such as a cozy faux fur lining that provides insulation. In addition, the natural activity of your feet increases the body’s own heat production.
Vaistoa thermal insoles further enhance this natural warmth: their foil layer reflects body heat back to the foot, reducing cold transfer from the ground and helping to keep your feet comfortably warm even in cold conditions.
You can test the shoes indoors for 90 days. Returns are free, so you can order risk-free and with peace of mind. If you're not completely satisfied, simply return them within 90 days for a full refund. No questions asked.

Barefoot shoes have been around for years and are based on principles of natural movement and foot health. They are not just a trend; they are a step towards healthier footwear choices.
Our barefoot shoes are made from high-quality materials and designed for use in various environments. They are durable, but it’s important to remember that all shoes are consumable items. Barefoot shoes naturally have thinner soles compared to traditional thick-soled shoes. The durability of the soles can vary depending on the level of activity, the environment, and your walking style.
While athletes and outdoor enthusiasts use barefoot shoes for their features, they are suitable for anyone looking for comfort and the benefits of natural movement.
Many people with foot problems have found relief with barefoot shoes because they improve foot functionality. However, it’s wise to consult a healthcare professional before making a change if you are unsure.
Barefoot shoes do not provide any support because their purpose is to allow the foot muscles to work while moving. Supported shoes weaken the foot muscles because they don’t get to do their job.
